Donne, Thomas Edward, 1860-1945

Superintendant of Tourist Resorts. With the New Zealand Telegraph Department 1873, then the Railways Department, to become a District Traffic Manager. Secretary to the Department of Industries and Commerce, then General Manager of the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts. Vice-President and Executive Commissioner for the New Zealand International Exhibition, 1906-1907. Secretary to the High Commissioner for New Zealand, 1914-1925. Honorary Captain, NZEF 1915. Collected New Zealand works of art relating to Maori and to landscapes. Some of his collection came to the Alexander Turnbull Library, by donation, purchase, and via the Kenneth Webster Collection in 1970. The balance of his collection of New Zealand watercolours, drawings, artifacts and natural history specimens was sold at Sotheby's London, 1 Nov 1973.
