Writer. Lady Barker was born in Jamaica, probably some time between 1830 and 1832, daughter of Walter and Susan Stewart. She was baptised on 10 Feb 1834 at St Catherine's Church, Middlesex. She spent time in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand in various farming pursuits with her husband, Frederick Broome, and wrote about her travels in numerous books, including "Station life in New Zealand" and "Station amusements in New Zealand".
