MacKenzie, John (Sir), 1839-1901

Farmer, politician, political reformer. Minister of Lands, 1891-1900. Member of the House of Representatives 1884-1887. Member of Parliament for Moeraki 1881-1887, Waihemo 1887-1890, 1893-1900, and Waitaki 1890-1893. Birth date given as 6 Oct 1839 in Dictionary of New Zealand Biography (Vol 2, 1870-1900), with note to say date previously thought to have been 1838. Funeral was held at Palmerston (Otago), and he was buried in Oamaru.
