FitzRoy, Robert (Capt), 1805-1865

Officer of the Royal Navy, hydrographer, colonial governor and meteorologist. Captain of HMS Beagle on the survey of South America and the Pacific 1831-1836, and Governor of New Zealand 1843-1845; in 1851 he became Head of the Meteorogical Department, Board of Trade; was made Vice-Admiral in 1863.
