- Description
A rooster with a very long beak, denoting a tendency to lying Pinocchio style, is shown with a guillotine blade hovering above it. The words 'more chicken than rooster' appear at the bottom of the cartoon. Refers to French rugby player Bastareaud's lying by saying that he got facial injuries as a result of an attack by five men in the street. In fact it appears that the injuries were caused by a fight with members of his own team. This caused an international embarrassment because New Zealand cannot afford a tarnished reputation as a safe place to visit for either its tourism industry or the 2011 Rugby World Cup. As a result the French Prime Minister wrote an apology to the New Zealand PM.
