Description
New Zealand soldiers probably shown after the removal of a German mine in the main street of recaptured Esnes in France during World War I. (They are watching something along the street) One soldier is standing in a hole from which the mine was removed. A message 'Mine Removal' is written on the building opposite. Photograph taken 12 October 1918 by Henry Armytage Sanders. Caption - "No longer a menace. Removing a mine laid by the enemy in the main street."
