Description

The first of ten carved pou being laid in place during the Waiwhetu Marae's 25th birthday celebrations. Photograph taken by Evening Post staff photographer Ross Giblin, circa 11 September 1985. Shows Waiwhetu trustee and former secretary of Maori Affairs Kara Puketapu, Waiwhetu Marae member Teri Puketapu, and Marae chairman Richard Luke, handling the pou which was named after former local chief Ihaia Porutu.
