Description

The diaries record Crowther's daily activities such as what time she got up, gardening, cooking and the state of the weather. She notes when scouts came for camps on her property.

Relationship complexity - A considerable collection of Mary Crowther's diaries were donated to the Library as part of the Roy Nelson bequest in 1988. These are at 88-248-04 and cover the years 1916 to 1951, some 26 volumes. The connection between Roy Nelson and Mary Crowther was scouting; she was associated with the Scout movement for many years. Further diaries at MSX-6216.

The 1885 diary begins on Mary Crowther's 16th birthday; the 1958 diary ends with her entry into hospital on 8 July. She died 16 August.
