Alexander Turnbull Library SPC copy lacks first and final leaf. Binding: bound in contemporary alum-tawed pigskin over 8mm wooden boards; upper and lower covers blind tooled to a panel design using fillet rolls, with different arrangements of differing single floral or foliage tools and a unicorn tool; fillet line along the edges of the boards; brass corner pieces engraved “Ihesus und Maria” (one missing from upper cover), and evidence of now missing central bosses; two decorated fore-edge clasps with leather straps (one strap missing) with catch plate on the upper cover; mitred corners on turn-ins; bottom edges have handwritten title “Bar.anglicus”; paper pastedowns, no endleaves; plaited endbands in green and white; blind tooled edges. The text block is sewn on three double supports showing on spine as raised bands; spine compartments are tooled with blind lines and a floral tool different from that used on upper and lower covers; top compartment has handwritten title in brown ink “Barthol. Anglici.O.S.F de Proprietatib9 Rerum.” with shelf mark “P” in the bottom compartment.
Alexander Turnbull Library SPC copy. Provenance: some marginalia ; ownership inscription in head margin on recto of 1st leaf: “Joan: Christoph. Neuj[s?]etteij cogn.to Sturme[lij?]” and in tail margin: “Loci Capuccino[rum] Bambergae. 1638. 9. ocbris”. Bookplate: James Ambrose Story BA. Motto: Amicissimi amicorvm, taciti loqvvntvr, mortvi docent, absentes adsvnt. Held in St Josephs Convent school library, Hastings, until 1967, then in the Colin Library, Mt. St. Mary's Seminary, Greenmeadows, Taradale; deposited on permanent loan in the Alexander Turnbull Library by the Society of Mary, December 2001. Foxing and browning, prominent in places; bad water stains leaf f3 and f4; worming tail margin of first leaf and front pastedown; first three leaves show damage along fore and tail edges. Accompanied by 2 cards, one typed and one written in ink, with information on the author and the content of the item. Acc. 352531.
