Date
Oct 1994
By
Shieff, Sarah, (University of Waikato)
Description

Explains how 'Landfall in unknown seas' by Allen Curnow, both as a poem and set to music by Douglas Lilburn, has contributed to the formation of a national identity in the arts, and how the cultural nationalism of the 1940s relates to other celebrations of the nation, both then and now. Refers to the recent recording of the work by the NZ Chamber Orchestra, with Sir Edmund Hillary as narrator.
