Description: The first ten images are views of Denniston and the Camp under snow. These images include distant views and views within the town showing houses and streets. One image shows coal trucks crossing the trestle bridge in snow covered country side, and another is of the iron bridge in winter. Five images are of waterfalls and scenic features taken along the horse track connecting Denniston with the coastal plain The last eight images are of Westport. One shows a typical villa of the period, another shows the exterior of the Westport Coal Company's laboratory building. There is a view of the railway yards with Denniston coal waiting in trucks. Description: Photographs taken by John Tenison Salmon between 1933 and 1958. There are various sequences as follows: Museum trip to Lake Waikaremoana, December 1946; Holiday trip in 1937 which included Mohaka, Lake Waikaremoana and Urewera Country; Cass-Torlesse biological trip, February 1936; South Island trip, March 1939; and a Southern Lakes and Hollyford Valley trip in January 1940. The holiday trip in 1937 includes photographs of the Mohaka Viaduct under construction. At the beginning of the album a photograph shows Lake Waikaremoana after 21 years of deterioration due to state Electricity Department actions. This image was taken in January 1958, from approximately the same spot as one taken in February 1937. The Cass-Torlesse biological trip includes an image of "vegetable sheep" (page 48).
