Description: Stevenson wrote her account in 1987 and begins by describing her family and their situation from when she was born in Pahiatua in 1920 until the 1950s when her marriage ended. She describes the daily life and routines of the family, the various moves they made - to Wellsford, Hamilton, back to Pahiatua, Ongarue, Makokomiko and Wellington - the work her father did which included selling books for the Seventh-Day Adventists and being a farm manager - and of life at the various schools she and her sisters attended. She describes working in Wellington at the Sanitarium Health Food vegetarian cafe, her marriage to Bob Woods, various events in their family life and their subsequent separation when she began working at the Odeon picture theatre in Auckland. She also discusses the role of religion in a person's upbringing. Stevenson and her husband narrowly missed being on the Tangiwai train and she elaborates on this. Description: Railway trains, locomotives, and carriage interiors in New Zealand, Britain and North America. The Volcanic Plateau and Wairakei geothermal project. Most of the album shows ships on Auckland Harbour and at the wharves, including the launch 'Manu', used to provide "Captain Cook Cruises" circa 1980, and the refurbished waterfront and cast iron gates near the Ferry Terminal Building. There are also shots of people taking the sun in this area. The final section records some of the demolition and rebuilding in Auckland during the 1980s. Rationalist House also features. Description: Photographs of hydroelectric power plants on the Waikato River, at Ohakuri, Waipapa and Aratiatia. Other photographs show the permanent villages at Maraitai and Wairakei, and in particular the community halls built for those villages. The photographs were taken ca 1963 by a Ministry of Works staff photographer. Also included are photographs of Aratiatia power station taken by Rod Cook. Collection also includes aerial photographs of Auckland taken during World War II by an unknown photographer. Source of title - Title supplied by Library Some of these photographs were progress photographs to send to the Head Office Hydro Design in Wellington, but most were taken for a display of Government architectural design work. The Ministry of Works operational centre was at Mangakino, with later a construction group at Aratiatia. Rodney Cook was project architect at Mangakino and then Aratiatia from 1961 to 1964. Description: Album of photographs, moslty of family and friends, chiefly taken by Rhoda McWhannell. Family and friends include a gathering at the christening of Malcolm McWhannell (son of Joan and John McWhannell), Bill and Kathleen Haines of `The Croft', Wiltshire, England; Elizabeth and Jane Geddis as teenagers; John McIlrea, a very young boy watching shearing; Mike and Jill Carter; and the home of Mrs Mavis Commons. Scenes relating to `Rozel', the farm owned by Frederick and Rhoda McWhannell, include the felling of a huge aspen poplar in 1963, and working with Mr Gerlach, with a trailer filled with bamboo.
