Description: Photograph album containing views of the South Island, including Christchurch, Diamond Lake, Otira Gorge, Bluff, Skippers Gorge, Waiau River and Hanmer. North Island views include views of Mount Tarawera after the eruption in June 1886, and views of the Pink and White Terraces before they were destroyed in the eruption. Other views show Napier, showing the first ship to berth at the new breakwater, SS Flora, on 22nd October 1895; Marine Parade in Napier; street views in Gisborne and Whangarei; Parihaka; and the Rotorua, Wairakei area with the Huka Falls, Aratiatia Rapids, and the Waimangu Geyser. Photographs taken circa 1890s, by some unidentified photographers, but many by named photographers, including Arthur James Iles (Thames), E Wheeler & Son (Christchurch), Hawley & Co (Napier).
