Description: Shows a rural scene of a mill building beside a stream, with bush-covered hills in the background. In the centre foreground stands a man in a red shirt carrying a pitchfork, with his dog beside him. A group of cattle graze in the field at the right. The locality may be at Mander's mill at Awitu, begun around 1881 (the picture is dated 1880). Because of the date of the work, the location is uncertain. Mander had mills at Awitu (Awhitu?) from about 1881, and a few years later at Pukekararo (in partnership with Samuel Bradley). In 1895 the partners erected another mill/other mills at Nihotapu and Worsley's Bush in the Waitakere Ranges, both very steep and heavily-forested areas and not a match for the terrain shown in this view.
