Description: Contains diaries, which he kept from 1856 until 1902. Also two large scrapbooks, correspondence and papers relating to his son, Edward, and to his mother, Angela Attwood. The diaries cover his work as a surveyor around Christchurch, his return to England and life there while the correspondence with Edward offers insight into parent-child relations of the period. The later volumes, along with the scrapbooks, contain a large amount of photographs, illustrations and clippings. His interest in the Attwood family is reflected throughout the collection Quantity: 43 volume(s).

Description: There are two groups of letters, those of George Burnett and those of his brother James Burnett. George Burnett letters from the Victory at sea and shortly after his arrival in Auckland, 1850-1851, includes a letter-diary of the voyage. James Burnett letters from Auckland, Whangarei, Nelson and Grey River area. The latter 1860-1861 when he accompanied von Haast on his West Coast expedition. Also a letter written by Martha Jane Burnett (wife of James) dated 4 Sep 1852 in which she describes the voyage of the Joseph Fletcher, 1852. Includes family tree showing the descendants of James Burnett (1785-1851) and his wife Barbara Johnston (d 1861) George Burnett arrived on the Victory in Jan 1851 at Auckland. His younger brother James, a surveyor, arrived on the Joseph Fletcher at Auckland, Oct 1852, accompanied by his mother, 2 sisters, and brother William. The family were originally from Ovington, Northumberland and settled at Whangarei. James accompanied von Haast on his West Coast expedition in 1860 Quantity: 4 folder(s). 0.04 Linear Metres.
