Description: A base map of rural lands and small grazing runs for lease in the Tauhara Survey District, on the shores of Lake Taupo, has been used by H. Hill to show his own land and other sections leased by him. Several farm blocks include pencilled monetary values while others are shaded and include positions of buildings. H. Hill's own section has handwritten notes 'Afforested & finish', 69 acres, Sold' and adjacent to this section a note states ' Letter to I. Hislop Oct 23/22 re leasing reserve/thermal sp.'. A handwritten pencilled note states 'George Wall, Waitahanui, Tender for fencing' with several pencilled arithmetical sums. The Taupo - Napier Road continues as hand-drawn lines in ink across farm sections. Several sections are marked as withdrawn. A hand-drawn compass indicates the aspect. A letter mounted on the bottom right of the map is a reply from the Commissioner of Crown Lands, K.M. Graham, to H. Hill about lease of extra land. The base map itself is of sections of lands in the Tauhara Survey District, Auckland Land District No. 1095. Includes references to Native Owners and Crown Land, a thermal springs reserve. An extensive statement on the left side of the map begins with the heading Rural Lands and small-grazing runs for lease, and include the date of 24th. October 1911 at the District Lands Office, Auckland. A schedule of the sections includes the valuations, acreages and rent. Instructions to applicants and a caution follow with the printed name of Eric C. Gold Smith, Commissioner of Crown Lands. Includes an abstract of the conditions of lease. Names listed are: G. Description: A poster-plan map of Auckland Land District no. 1317 depicting 2102 acres of land for sale or lease to discharged soldiers. Made up of two maps, one a cadastral map of the Mangoira Block, indicating numbered sections and including acreages, owner's names and dates handwritten in each section. The other is a locality plan of the area from Kaipara Harbour south to New Plymouth which has an arrow pointing to Awakino. The map includes several paragraphs of text stating conditions of sale, information about the 'second class land', and instructions to applicants. The cadastral map depicts the Awakino North Survey District, with handwritten names listed as CM Raven, MC Pratt, LR Jones, T Cummings, GP Sage, CJ Randell, (earlier owners include Claud Neville de Gray Stevens, S Whitehead). Bordering these properties are the owners WD Black, JR Terrille, SM Black, Thomson, Jones, Cummings, Condon, Beuck, and well as two Native Reserves, and Native owners (Maori land blocks) of Mahoenui no. 4b and Manga - Awakino no. 4. Description: Most of the New Zealand images relate to the Nelson family, their farms, farm houses, and farm buildings in the Pori area, north eastern Wairarapa, and scenic views of the area such as the Makuri River, a waterfall at Tiraumea, Annedale north of Tainui, the Pori Bridge, and native forest. The images of the farm houses include building a stable and buggy house, views of the yard with washing drying, a hen run, and a view of the dining room at "Ruatea". Four images are of Hugh Nelson's whare which was the first building constructed at "Taumata". There are three photographs of local Maori, one of bullock teams at Tiraumea, snow covered landscape at "Nga Mahanga", a picnic group with horses and buggys, and many views of the countryside from the Nelson farms showing cleared, partially cleared and forested land, much of it covered with the gaunt trunks of burnt off bush. There are group photographs of the families and friends. As well as the men these include women (wives?) Lucy, Katie, and Winifred, and children, Robert, Frances, and Dorothea. Other new Zealand houses include two probably located at Annedale with the names "Te Hoe" and "Manawa", and another in Featherston called "Newstead". Description: The two Nelson farms in this album are "Nga Mahanga" (Hugh Nelson's place), and "Taumata" (Jack Nelson's place). Views show the farm houses, and farm buildings, the farm land and landscape of the Pori area partially cleared of bush. One group of images shows the countryside under snow. There are a series of five images recording the building of a stables and buggy house, also a view of the woolshed and sheep at "Taumata". Scenic views of the area include the Makuri River ford, native forest interiors with pongas, and native forest. Four images show the interior of Hugh Nelson's whare which was the first building constructed at "Taumata". There are two photographs of local Maori standing beside tents in a bush clearing, one of army volunteers in uniform standing in front of tents, two of soldiers at an unidentified event, many of horses, some of hens, dogs, cats, and cattle. Two prints show one of the Nelson brothers cutting long grass with a scythe and 4 others are views of an unidentified house and its garden at Tiraumea (a distant view of this house surrounded by pinus radiata shelter belts and its surrounding countryside can be seen in album PA1-o-1206, page 7 captioned "Tiraumea"). There are also some images of "Newstead" the Monckton family home at Featherston. There is only one photograph of a Nelson family group. The rest are individual images of adults and children which include: Frederick Monckton, Lucy Miller (who married Frank Nelson), Winifred, [Lornie?], Dorothea, [Frances?], the brothers and the children. Description: A poster-plan cadastral map, Auckland Land District no. 1145, of land for sale in public auction in the Waitanguru village. The map's annotations include numbered sections, some coloured, and include acreages, owner's names and dates where applicable. The base map indicates the road names, the Waitanguru Stream, the sale yards site, creamery residence, mechanics institute, municipal residence, recreation residence, school residence. Handwritten names are Awakino Co. Co, F Thrush, Waitanguru Co-op Dairy Company, J Barret, LB Mills, Mrs A Lindsay, F Thoms, E Buckley, VL Jackson, E Fitton, FH Larsen, C Davey, HA Armstrong, General Trust Board Diocese of Auckland.
