Includes displays viewed and events attended by the royal couple, as well as travelling between towns by car and train. Places visited include: the Royal New Zealand Air Force at Wigram airport, Canterbury University, the view over Lyall Bay from Truby King's house, Dunedin war memorial and the war memorial at Waitaki Boys' High School, Government House in Wellington. Description: Loose photographs extracted from album (PA1-o-1549). Includes photographs of a hill climbing sports car event, sports car club meeting, Wellington beaches, Wellington suburbs and housing developments, and the construction of a house. Mr Hird was an electrical designer, involved in the development of television, designing radios for Sir Edmund Hillary in Antarctica, and was apparently in radio surveillance in WW2. His father taught at Seatoun school. Mr Hird lived most of his life in the house at Mantell Street. See 'Freedom' newspaper, 25 Nov 1953, p.6 re his involvement in developing television. On the first trip the photographer goes by car to the Nelson Lakes District, and the Buller River, to the Korere Valley "and so home". The second trip is one travelling to the New Zealand Exhibition at Dunedin in November 1925, though there are no images showing the exhibition. The trip goes from the Buller River; Lake Kaniere; views of the Rimu Dredge; near Jacksons; Otira Station; Otira Gorge; Springfield after a snow fall; Lyttelton Harbour; a visit to the remains of the old homestead at Double Corner, Waipara, with historic white gums; and lastly views from the Summit Road, Akaroa Peninsula.
