Description: Shows three passengers going towards the cable car which is stationed at the terminus at Kelburn 1933. Photograph taken by a staff photographer of the Evening Post. Description: The first ten images are views of Denniston and the Camp under snow. These images include distant views and views within the town showing houses and streets. One image shows coal trucks crossing the trestle bridge in snow covered country side, and another is of the iron bridge in winter. Five images are of waterfalls and scenic features taken along the horse track connecting Denniston with the coastal plain The last eight images are of Westport. One shows a typical villa of the period, another shows the exterior of the Westport Coal Company's laboratory building. There is a view of the railway yards with Denniston coal waiting in trucks. Description: Album of photographs taken by Albert Percy Godber between 1901 and 1903. South Island subjects include the Cape Foulwind Lighthouse and quarry, Westport railway yards and wharf, Reefton, and scenes of explosions in Lyttelton Harbour for Regatta Day, 1st January 1909, and a large number of people beside the Spit Volunteer Fire Brigade building. Scenes show the laying of foundation stones for the Petone Waterworks, and for the Baptist Church in Petone, both in 1903. There is also a view of the lecturn for St Augustine's Church in Petone, which was made by the Petone Railway Workshops. Several photographs show the Kelburn Cable Car, the cable car tunnel and the engine room, in 1903. Two photographs of a group of school children, the girls wearing white pinafores over dark coloured dresses. Some photographs relate to New Zealand railways, including specific locomotives, the Rimutaka Incline with the middle rail (part of the Fell System), railway tunnels, bush railways and railway workshops and yards; and some relate to Godber's interest and work in fire fighting. Description: Postcards of Wellington, Auckland, and Dunedin. These include views of the cities, their notable buildings, suburbs, harbours, and beaches. Of the three cities Wellington is most richly represented with, in many cases, good clear photographs of streets and buildings. The Wellington cable car is well represented and trams are conspicuous features throughout the collection. There are single photographs of Invercargill and Oamaru. Several postcards in the Dunedin section are views of the Waipori Gorge. One photograph shows the Salvation Army Institute building at Featherston Military Camp. Description: Photographs relating to the construction of the Cobb Dam, Tasman Region, taken circa 1940s-1950s by Mr Reginald Pearless, from Nelson, who worked as an an engineer on the dam. Images feature construction scenes on the banks of the Cobb River. Includes workers and others associated with the construction of the dam, workers' camps, machinery, bridges, a cable railway (which includes images of tracks being constructed and associated equipment, including a winding drum), trees, and mountains. Some images include captions including 'Old steam shovel from [?] and now at Takaka', 'Road to Power House', 'Pipe line', and 'July 2nd camp, Cobb River' (featuring Judy Pearless, daughter of Reginald Pearless, as identified by the donor). Description: Panoramic view looking over Kelburn Park with a section of the rails of the Kelburn Cable Car seen on the right. The Kelburn Tea Kiosk is seen at the top of the hill to the left of the Cable Car. Salamanca Road winds up the hill on the right of the Arts Building (now the Hunter Building) of the Victoria University College. Wellington College is faintly visible on the far left. There are two areas of Kelburn Park in the foreground. The area closest to the camera shows a clubhouse and a man with a lawn roller. In the area nearer to the University there is a man walking behind a horse-drawn mower.
