Description: Album of photographs, some prints, some contacts from 35mm film, taken by Professor John Salmon in Wellington. Most of the images describe his use of different camera lenses and filters. Many of the scenes are taken from Professor Salmon's window at Victoria University of Wellington, showing different moods in different weather patterns. They include early morning, afternoon, and night views, northerly wind and southerly wind cloud patterns, including a southerly storm. He also has a large number of images of Wellington Harbour and wharves, again taken in different lights, showing ships, reflections and buildings. Other sequences show views of the Hutt Valley, Silverstream, and Glenmore Street in Wellington, many taken on misty early mornings. The last scenes are coloured photographs showing some of the decorations erected for the Royal visit of Queen Elizabeth II, in January 1954. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). Photographs include views of Mount Cook Boys' School staff at a picnic, children from the school on an outing to the coast where they were picnicking and swimming, and teachers in fancy dress. A number of images show Trafalgar Day celebrations, with a parade through the streets of Wellington, and activities at Newtown Park. Two ships shown are HMS Powerful in Wellington Harbour, and La Bella after being washed ashore at Ohiro Bay, 15th October 1904. Description: Cartoon relating to Mr Augustus M Tartakover, a pioneer of organised surf lifesaving in Australia, manager of Empire Theatre, Island Bay, prominent golfing figure (member, Miramar and Rotorua Golf Clubs) and worked as a wool-buyer for H Dawson & Sons. Mr Tartakover's face is a photograph glued to a cartoon figure. He is holding hands with Mickey Mouse. Description: Photographs of the Sacred Heart Convent/Erskine College building, Island Bay, Wellington, New Zealand. There is one more recent photograph of the wooden house which was the original convent in Island Bay. Most of the other photographs are of the four storied building constructed between 1904 and 1906 which housed the community of nuns and Erskine College which was founded in 1905. The earliest photographs show this building in the final stages of construction in 1906. Other photographs show it over subsequent years, and as an Island Bay landmark. These images also show the early layout and developmwnt of the grounds. There are also a series of images showing the new susburb of Island Bay in about 1910.
