Includes displays viewed and events attended by the royal couple, as well as travelling between towns by car and train. Places visited include: the Royal New Zealand Air Force at Wigram airport, Canterbury University, the view over Lyall Bay from Truby King's house, Dunedin war memorial and the war memorial at Waitaki Boys' High School, Government House in Wellington. Description: Album of photographs of family and friends probably taken by Rhoda McWhannell. They include a sequence at the beginning of the wedding of Brian Stewart Geddes, and Audrey Marion (nee Hopkins), on 14th May 1945. Their family, especially their daughters Elizabeth Anne, and Jane Margaret, are photographed as babies, and as they grow. Scenic views include the Gisborne region; and Kawau Island, with a large group in Mr McDowell's party, deep-sea fishing from a launch, showing their catch of hapuka A group of women from the Women's War service Auxiliary at Katikati are seen in two images; and a meeting house at Katikati. Description: Gordon Coates and his wife on tour. Most of these photographs relate to Coates' as MP and Minister of Public Works. Most of the events record the trials and tribulations of journeying to remote parts of New Zealand to open bridges, post offices, power plants etc. The album also records some of the social and recreational events associated with the tours. According to Gordon Coates' daughter, Mrs Sheila Pryde, this album belonged to Gordon Coates' wife Marjorie, who collected, and may have taken some of the snaps when she accompanied her husband travelling in various parts of New Zealand. Description: The journey begins at Palmerston North and includes Hawke's Bay, Gisborne and the Bay of Plenty. The van follows State Highway two with frequent deviations from it into various back block localities. Another section of the journey is from Wairoa to Taupo via Lake Waikaremoana and the Kaingaroa Forest. Children as library users and at some of the schools where the van stops are featured. Description: Drawn on a published map of Mayor Island to Poverty Bay with an extended portion of another map glued to include the area from Mayor Island to the Mercury Islands. The annotations depict extended river and partially smooth water limits at various points around the coastline from the Mercury Islands to Poverty Bay. The limit for Gisborne fishing boats extends from Cape Runaway to Poverty Bay. A reference key is included which states that river and smooth water limits are coloured blue and one area is prominently named Te Kaha river limits. Extended and partially smooth water limits are coloured red and three areas are prominently named Tauranga; Whakatane, Ohiwa and Opotiki; Te Kaha extended river limits. The Tauranga extension for fine weather only, at the discretion of the Inspector of Fisheries, is coloured green. 'Opotiki extreme limits' covers the approximate area between White Island and Whale Island. An additional area has been shaded green for the extended river and partial limit from Whangamata and Tauranga to Mayor Island, with details written in biro added at a later date. Also marked in biro are three anchorages for launches, one at Waihau Bay. 'George Siroper 9/1/25' is handwritten adjacent to reference key, at centre top of map. Signature hard to decipher. '133/47' is handwritten centrally on the map. Nos. '6' and '2527' and 'Restricted limits - Bay of Plenty' are handwritten on the reverse Base map: Mayor Island to Poverty Bay / surveyed by Captain W. Description: Shows a group of fisherman on a wharf where some small boats are tied up. One man sits with a black and white dog at his feet, and talks to a man standing beside two barrels full of fish. One of the barrels has the initials JM in large letters on the side. Some shallow baskets of fish with one or two fish in them, lie in the foreground. Further away on the right, a man hoses down the wharf, in front of a flagstaff with a blue and red flag flying. A red buoy floats in the left foreground, and there are some abandoned fishing rods on the wharf at the left. Some buildings at Port Chalmers are visible in the left background. Chatham Islands album

Description: Album chiefly shows members of a Lands & Survey team surveying boundaries etc, in the Chatham Islands, and in South Canterbury, circa 1938. Residents of the Chatham Islands, various locations in the islands and activities such as sheep transportation from the islands to Lyttelton and Wellington by ship are shown. Another sequence shows drainage and irrigation procedures in South Canterbury. The photographer is probably Russell Gladstone Dick, later the New Zealand Surveyor-General. Other - Source of descriptive information - Card inserted in album which reads "Ample evidence this is a 1938 Lands and Surveys team surveying boundaries etc ...
