Description: Features the leading members of parliament as rugby teams. Above is the Labour team with leader Bill Rowling in the centre flanked by David Lange and Matiu Rata, Minister of Maori Affairs from 1972. The lower National team shows Prime Minister Rob Muldoon in the centre, with, to his right, Warren Cooper Minister of Regional Development, and Barry Brill Minister of Energy and Minister of Science and Technology, and to his left, Colin McLachlan Minister of Transport, and Jim Bolger Minister of Labour. Context: Matiu Rata left the Labour Party in 1980 to form the Mana Motuhaka Party. The two ministers to the right of the prime minister were chiefly responsible for the 'Think big' projects. The two ministers on his left are Colin McLachlin who mismanaged this transport role and Jim Bolger who failed to win the Kinleith Pulp and Paper Mill dispute - which was a triumph for Federation of Labour Secretary Jim Knox. Note that Matiu Rata's new party appears as Manu Motuhake in the cartoon. In fact it was named Mana Motuhake. Quantity: 1 original cartoon(s).
