Description: Shows a village at Tokaanu, Taupo, where some of the storehouses are cut into the cliffs with rectangular openings. There are also huts and storehouses on top of the cliff. Labelled features are: the Kaimanawa Range (far left), Pihanga moutain (centre distance) and Herekiekie's grave in the far right background. A road cuts through a gorge at the far left, and there are talls grasses in the left foreground. Description: The interior of Te Wherowhero's pa, with Taupiri mountain rising in the background. There is a row of houses to the left, some with palisades around them, groups of people seated in the centre, and other buildings, including pataka, on the right Angas visited New Zealand in 1844. This is a redrawing of his lithograph 'Tu Kaitote ...' plate 15 in his The New Zealanders illustrated (London, 1847). The copyist is probably H. W. Kirkwood One of four lithographs on one sheet, all copies of work by Angas and probably all copied by Kirkwood. Description: A pre-eruption view of Lake Rotokakahi (Green Lake) shows the Maori village of Kaiteriria. In the left foreground a group of Maori is seated on the ground beside a raised storehouse (pataka), with several other pataka and whare further away. There is a stake fence between the pataka and the whare, as well as another pataka on the headland reaching away into the lake. Three figures sit in a waka with a small rectangular sail at lower right. The island or headland at the far right has a flat top which may be a pa site. Description: Reconstruction of the death of Marion Du Fresne in the Bay of Islands in 1772. Shows part of a pa, with a store-house (pataka) and fence. A group of implements and European objects is in the foreground, including a three-cornered hat and a sword. A cabbage tree and flax plants can be seen in the foreground. Marion du Fresne is surrounded by a number of Maori, with others looking on from the pataka. He is distracted by one of the Maori men offering him what looks like a bird, while another Maori stands behind him, about to strike him with a club. A Maori woman is walking off to the left with another French sailor, and a Pakeha youth, probably one of the ship's crew, looks on in horror.
