Description: A view from inside a verandah with creepers winding up supports and across the top, looking down towards a garden and road, and across the harbour towards North Head, with the outline of Rangitoto Island in the distance on the right. North Head's signal station is included The reference to 'Mrs Churton' suggests the drawing was done after the death of Rev J F Churton in 1853. Description: Shows several sailboats around the dry dock, behind with is a clay cutting in the hill. There are two or more tall ships in the dock. The building beside the dock has a tall factory chimney. The date is 16 February 1888 when the Calliope Dock was opened (See article in the "New Zealand", 17 February 1888, page 4. River Thames refers to the Firth of Thames. Compiled largely from the work of Dumont D'Urville and crew of Astrolabe, 1827, during his exploration of New Zealand, and possibly others. Possibly taken from British Admiralty Chart of the same area published in 1836 - (from Brian Hooker). Drawn by Mudie for the Clint's Establishment, Sydney, ca. 1838 (see AT 13/13 8.7.91 (Hooker)).
