Description: Map showing the East Cape, Bay of Plenty, Tauranga, Northern Hawkes Bay and just south of Taupo. Shows Te Kooti's approximate route, and direction (arrows on line) and his engagements with the Hauhau people. Stops at certain pa are dated, some added text (before photocopy) e.g. "Final escape to King Country", "Visit to Takangamutu". Key stops included Opape, Tologa Bay, Turanga, Whakatane, Rotorua, Te Pourere, Puketapu. The linking areas for all these points was the Urewera country. Te Kooti was a Rongowhakaata leader, military leader, prophet, religious founder, pursued by colonial forces, eventually took refuge in the King Country where Te Kooti remained until pardoned in 1883. Description: The papers consist of: Application form and land documents to support the application submitted by Robert Gillow Elliott; history of the family's ownership; Plan of Mangatahi; `The Mangatahi Settlement, particulars, terms and conditions', 1907 (photocopy of printed material). Original owner was Robert William Andrew Elliott who acquired 568 acres of the Mangatahi Block by ballot in 1907. On his death in 1933 the farm was run as an estate by his wife Ruby. After her death it was farmed in partnership by their children Joyce and Robert. After three years Robert leased his sister's share, until 2003 when he bought her out. In 2007 it was being run by Robert's son David. In 2007 the property was awarded the New Zealand Century Farm and Station award to mark over 100 years of continuous ownership by one family. Shows the coastline and country inland of southern Hawkes Bay, between the Pōrangahau River and the Whangaehu River on the coast, bounded by the edge of the Tautane land block in the south and inland to the Mangaorapa Stream in the west. Numbered land blocks are shown along the Pōrangahau River from the coastline and inland, including the outlined Pōrangahau township. Shows acres in numerical format, some river names and place names and numerous Māori names. Broken and unbroken black lines indicate boundary lines of land blocks and the land area is marked with numerical and alphabetical figures in black, red and blue ink. A red line is marked on the map in a south to north direction, near the name Kohu.o.tu in the south and Waioheke in the north. Circles in red ink with numbers next to them are also shown.
