Description: Photograph album of prints, showing images of scenes around New Zealand, taken by Frank Arnold Coxhead from circa 1864 to circa 1890s. Compiler of album unidentified. Most prints have captions. - Includes images of scenes around Milford Sound, Queenstown-Lakes District and George Sound, which include images of lakes, ships, people, and buildings. - Also includes images of Christchurch, including the Christchurch Cathedral, the Victoria Bridge (with a caption inscribed in pencil saying 'Law Courts'), the Avon River, the Christchurch Botanical Gardens, Sumner and Shag Rock. - Also includes images of Auckland including Albert Park, North Shore, Auckland Hospital and a waterfall at Lucas Creek. - Also includes a series of images taken from what is described as the 'Hokitika Road' (Arthur's Pass) including the Otira Gorge, the Devil's Punchbowl, Mount Rolleston and Mount Philistine. - Also includes images of Dunedin including the Octagon (which includes images of horses and carts, buildings and roads), North East Valley, Leith Valley, Port Chalmers, and Dunedin Botanic Garden. - Also includes an image of a group of Maori standing outside Tamatekapua wharenui (meeting house) at Ohinemutu, and an image of (mainly Maori) people at Ateamuri [sic], Waikato. Description: A cartoon showing Sir John Hall training his telescope in the direction of Athurs Pass (indicated by a signpost), while an old woman embodying "The Standard" newspaper, stands beside him. "Making New Zealand" comments that public opinion was in favour of the route to the West Coast being over Brownings Pass, but the "Standard" agreed with Sir John Hall. Description: Album of photographs taken by Edward Percy Sealy during the 1860s. They show views of Canterbury and the road to the West Coast, including the houses and farm buildings at Castle Hill Station (home of John Davies Enys), and those at the Orari Gorge Station (home of Charles George Tripp). Landscapes mostly show the route from Porter's Pass, past Mount William, through the Bealey Valley, Arthur's Pass, the Ragged Range, Otira Gorge, Orari Gorge, the Rakaia River, and views of Mount Cook (Aoraki) and Mount Sefton. Several photographs show winter scenes in the Alford Forest, followed by summer scenes in the forest. Quantity: 1 album(s). West Coast album

Description: Photographs of the West Coast, with particular emphasis on bridges, gold mining activities, towns, and roads. Photographers mostly unidentified, but two definitely taken by John Tait (p 9-10), and one possibly taken by James Ring (p 20; identified from same photograph in different collection (PA7-51-05)). The bridges include Hungerfords Bridge and Thompson's Bridge, both over the Arahura River, and the Upper Bridge in the Otira Gorge. There is also a view of the Kaniere [i.e. Kanieri] punt for crossing the river. Views of gold mining and mining towns include the Hohonu Water Race Company's flume at Greenstone; the Great Western Company's fluming at Kaniere [i.e. Kanieri]; mining towns at Donoghues and Redman's; Ross; Goldsborough; the Kohinoor claim; and Napoleon Hill, Ahaura, showing various businesses along a narrow street including the Casino de Venise, Baillie Bootmaker, Scandinavian Hotel and the Victoria & Sydney Hotel. A number of views of Hokitika include the town from various angles; Dobson's Memorial (to roading engineer George Dobson who was murdered in 1866); the cemetery with a view of Archibald Bonar Junior's tombstone; the Old Post Office; the Hokitika Wharf; "cutting through the sandspit, Hokitika Bar, Sunday morning 1867"; and the Hokitika River with vessels ashore in 1866.
