Description: Shows main street and shops of goldfield town 18 miles south-east from Greymouth. Men standing around outside the shops, a horse and cart half-way along the main street, a dog in the foreground, hills in the background. The hotel in the right foreground is named Criterion Hotel, the shop in the left foreground Edward Ryan Wholesale ... Merchant. There is a railway line running down the centre of the street. However, the date of [1925] suggests that it was probably prepared as a book illustration.

Description: Album of New Zealand scenery taken circa 1860s and 1870s. Some taken by William Thomas Locke Travers (particularly in the Lake Guyon area), identified by comparison with photographs known to be his; and some possibly taken by the Burton Brothers. Names of all the places listed can be seen in the list above, except for two streams which are not mentioned in current maps and guides, Blue Duck Creek and Gem Creek (Lake Guion); and a rock formation near Aorere which was known then as the "Devil's Boots". Included are part of the mill buildings, the water wheel, paddocks hedged and fenced with post and rail fences, farm houses, belts and patches of trees, and the railway line. In the distance can be seen Wellington Harbour and Soames Island. Photographed by an unknown photographer some time in the 1860s. Source of title - Title supplied by Library Another copy negative of this image is registered at 1/2-067933-F. This was made by the library from an original print lent by Mr A C Clendon in 1976. Description: Scenic photographs of Cass & Craigieburn, Midland Railway, Waimakariri Gorge taken between circa 1860s and 1940s by various unidentified and identified photographers. Photograph (no. 13) shows the hut owned by the Canterbury Coleege Mountain Biological Station; photograph (no. 25) of the old Benmore Station (no. 25) was taken by D L Lundy circa 1860s, and view (no. 26) shows the same site much later with fully grown macrocarpa trees, and the house in poorer condition; the views of the Midland Railway Line including when under construction, with the line, tunnels, and viaducts seen over a number of years were possibly taken by William Williams who was a photographer and who worked for the Railways Department; other images were probably taken by Charles Beken including one of "the meeting of the Arthur's Pass tunnel headings" with two men and a woman beside the dark opening.
