Maori letters - The Waitara question

The first letter is written by a young man from Waikanae who describes his observations about the Waitara dispute to his friends and relations at Waikanae. The second letter is from several chiefs from Waikanae who dispute the right of Te Teira to dispose of land at Waitara which they claim an ancestral right to through the Ngati Tuaho and Ngati Hinga hapu. Description: Much of the material comprises transcripts from the `Southern cross', `The New Zealander', and Hansard. The later years contain a higher proportion of reminiscences. References throughout to Forsaith's interests in Maori land purchases, journalism, music, politics, business and Presbyterian and Congregational churches. The text begins at volume 13 (p730) and ends with volume 32, the last volume about his time in New Zealand Source of title - Transcribed Relationship complexity - Whereabouts of volumes 1-12 is unknown. National Library of Australia was contacted in Oct 1994 but could provide no information on them. In all, they hold volumes 13-77. The volumes from 33 onwards were written in Australia and contain only an occasional mention of New Zealand Quantity: 1 microfilm reel(s) positive (ca 800 pages).
