Photographer unidentified. This is probably a publicity photograph of the six electric locomotives supplied by English Electric in 1923. Five were EO class mainland locomotives that collected electricity from overhead wires (and five of these are so constructed). The sixth (seen next to the engine) was a small battery driven E1 class locomotive for maintenance duties. They were probably used on the recently electrified Otira Turnnel section of the Midland line. Quantity: 1 b&w original photographic print(s).
