Malone, William George (Lieutenant-Colonel), 1859-1915 : Diaries and letters
Collection comprises detailed diaries and letter books containing comments on troops and tactics in training at the Awapuni Camp and in Wellington. Describes voyage to Egypt aboard the transport ship `Arawa'. Describes training in Egypt at Zeitoun and fighting during the Turkish campaign in Suez and Gallipoli. Diaries span one full year, 6 August 1914 - 6 August 1915. Letter books include many detailed letters home to his wife, Ida Malone and other family members. The Wellington Battalion landed on the Gallipoli peninsula on 25 April 1915. Malone was post commander at Courtney's Post and Quinn's Post between June and August 1915. The Wellington Battalion seized Chunk Bair on 8 August 1915.
