Here are some more useful teaching resources to further explore gender equality.


Ministry for Women — information on gender equality in Aotearoa in terms of education, employment, and health.

Te Ara — a comprehensive online New Zealand encyclopaedia that provides a depth of historical and contemporary information.

NZHistory — extensive coverage of aspects of New Zealand history, including women and the vote.

United National Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls — gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous world.

National Library resources

AnyQuestions — an online service where students can talk to librarians between 1pm and 6pm. There is also a ManyAnswers section that students can use to help them research a topic.

DigitalNZ — search DigitalNZ to discover New Zealand related gender equity items from videos, audio files, photographs, and cartoons. DigitalNZ content includes collection items from South Pacific countries.

EPIC — a collaboration between New Zealand Libraries and the Ministry of Education that allows students to access digital databases from around the world. EPIC is subscription based.
