Register: Learning and support for new school library staff 2024

Who this online community is for

Staff who are new to a role with an Aotearoa New Zealand school library, such as:

• school librarians

• library assistants

• teachers with library responsibility

• anyone providing school library services to students and staff.

How it works

Each term, you'll be invited to join 2 online meetings:

• one with other new school library staff in your local area

• a national meeting that's open to anyone interested in the topic being discussed.

Once you've registered, we'll send you invitations and a reminder ahead of each meeting. You're automatically invited to national meetings. You don't need to register for those, but can if you'd like to!

• Library operations and administration basics — circulation, managing student librarians and creating a welcoming environment.

• Supporting reading for pleasure — creating and sharing a great library collection.

• Building relationships — inside your school and within the wider community — to support teaching and learning.

What you'll do

• Join regular online meetings where our staff and guests will share their expertise and you can ask questions, reflect on and share your experiences within the group.

• Receive follow-up emails and individual support.

• Access high-quality resources and learn about proven strategies to try in your own library.

• Find out about further learning opportunities and support available.
