As a special closing day event for the Wāhine: Beyond the Dusky Maiden exhibition Miriama and Peter Scott will share stories about their grandmother and mother, Pirihira and Miriama Heketa, who are featured in the Turnbull Gallery exhibition. Pirihira, a founder of Ngāti Pōneke, was known as Māmā to generations of young Māori migrants to Wellington, and Miriama was a well-known dancer who owned her own dance school in the 1930s. Come and find out more about these inspiring wāhine rangatira from Ngāti Kahungunu.
