This half-day course will introduce you to basic principles, resources, and tools for working with born-digital heritage material. It will help you establish workflows and procedures to enable your institution to successfully management common born-digital materials.

Looking after born-digital materials

Have you discovered a collection of old floppy disks and CDs in the stacks, but have no idea what’s on them or how to look after them and their content? Do you want to start collecting more contemporary born-digital materials, but don’t know where to start?

This half-day course will introduce you to basic principles, resources, and
tools for working with born-digital heritage material. It will help you establish workflows and procedures to enable your institution to successfully management common born-digital materials.

  • key principles for working for with born-digital collections
  • workflow concepts and steps for acquiring and processing born-digital collections Introduction to file format identification
  • managing and preserving digital files over time

Registration is limited to 12 participants currently working in the GLAM sector in Aotearoa.

About the speaker

Valerie Love is the Senior Digital Archivist Kaipupuri Pūranga Matihiko Matua at the Alexander Turnbull Library, National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa, and is responsible for the acquisition, ingest and management of born-digital heritage collections. She has extensive experience in processing born-digital archival collections, with a particular focus on appraisal, arrangement and description, and workflow management.
