Join the Netherlands Embassy and the High Commission of Canada in New Zealand for a screening of the multiple award-winning documentary A Thousand Cuts, which portrays the drive of Philippine journalist Maria Ressa to defend freedom of expression.

Human rights documentary screening

In support of International Human Rights Day, the Netherlands Embassy and the High Commission of Canada in New Zealand are proud to co-host a screening of the multiple award-winning documentary A Thousand Cuts.

The documentary portrays the drive of Philippine journalist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Ressa to defend freedom of press and expression, to seek the truth and to hold authorities to account. Maria’s courage and determination has awarded her the prestigious 2021 Nobel Peace Prize as well as the 2020 Four Freedoms Award for Freedom of Speech.

Panel discussion on media freedom

After the screening there will be a panel discussion on media freedom with journalists including:

  • Anna Fifield, editor of the Dominion Post and Wellington editor for Stuff NZ
  • Marc Daalder, senior political reporter for Newsroom, and
  • Jane Patterson, political editor for RNZ.
