Ramsay Collection

This collection of New Zealand church and school histories has over 800 titles and was put together by Sir Thomas Ramsay (1907-1995). The Collection is held in the Turnbull Named Collections.

The collection was assembled in Melbourne by Ramsay, an Australian collector of some note. The major part of his library was sold at a Christies auction in Melbourne in 1977.

This particular segment of school and church histories was donated to the Alexander Turnbull Library by Ramsay prior to the auction and arrived in New Zealand in 1977 (see correspondence Traue to the Acting Consul General, New Zealand Consulate General, 1st September 1976, Ref: AAOJ, W5230, Box 38, TL 2/6). Many of the books and pamphlets are marked with Ramsay’s blind stamp “T.M.R. Library of T.M. Ramsay”.
