War Brothers: The Graphic Novel by Sharon E McKay & Daniel La France

The story is about children that get abducted by members of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in Uganda. The author Sharone McKay has spent time with child soldiers so her powerful story is based on real life events.

Jacob, one of the main characters writes a letter at the beginning of the story warning readers about the harsh and cruel reality of his life as a child soldier.

The LRA arrives in the middle of the night and abducts a group of children from the George Jones Seminary. The children are then made to obey orders from other children who have also been captured and forced to become child soldiers. The graphic novel brings into reality the frightening transformation of the mental makeup of children from innocent children to murderous individuals who must kill to survive.

Some of the images although brutal convey this harsh reality and the sense of fear in the children and their hopelessness are poignantly revealed by the author and illustrator.
There is another letter from Jacob at the end of the story that should reach out to readers and governments across the world as a cry for help.
