Creature features: 25 animals explain why they look the way they do by Steve Jenkins

If you have ever wanted to ask animals about their odd facial appearances here is the opportunity in this wonderful new title by Steve Jenkin. He has selected 25 animals to answer questions about why they look the way they do.

It’s an eclectic mix that includes the gross: the Egyptian vulture explains he has no feathers on his face as he sticks his face into the bodies of the dead animals he eats, and feathers would get pretty messy…to the hamster whose fat cheeks are actually pouches he fills with seeds and nuts to take back to his burrow for storage.

Each animal’s amusing answers are complimented by bright colourful collage illustrations giving this title wide appeal. As for giraffe, his tongue is purple so it doesn’t get sunburnt in the hot African savannah sun.
