The Bomb girls is a book which is filled with personal accounts of British women who worked in munitions factories while the men fought in the Second World War.
The book clearly depicts how dirty, dangerous and exhausting the work was for this hidden army of nearly two million women; mums, wives and teenage girls. Hyams has included some photographs of the women who offer their stories to the reader. Each account is different, yet the women all have one thing in common; they were the unsung heroines of the war who didn’t fight but selflessly went about helping to end to the war.
The book is the perfect length for young readers and I particularly like the font and format which is accessible and detailed without being too dense.
