2019 Smart Alex writing competition closes 21 July

There's still time — competition closes during the holidays!

Term 2 ends this week, but it’s not too late for students to enter the secondary school 2019 Smart Alex writing competition. Entries close 5pm on 21 July 2019 so students needing extra time can complete and submit their entries over the holidays.

The competition in a nutshell

The competition requires students to produce and submit a piece of creative writing in English or te reo Māori. It's that easy. In fact, entries can be prose, poetry, a written song/waiata, or a combination of text and illustrations such as a graphic story.

And to help with the writing process, we've even developed a set of evocative items from the Turnbull collections designed to bring student creativity and imagination to life.

All that's required are:

  • years 9–10, up to 250 words
  • years 11–13, up to 500 words.

And entry is free with great prizes

There are fabulous cash prizes.

Full details can be found in our 2019 Smart Alex blog post or on the competition sponsor's website: Friends of the Turnbull Library.

We've had some great entries but we'd love some more

So keep sending those entries during the holidays!
