Walk in and be welcomed

The Kaiarahi team

Enter near the Ra and waka, from where we extend out manaakitanga, and the Kaiarahi team will welcome you and guide you to spaces, places or people who can help you discover our collections and services.

Come to work, meet people, enjoy the galleries and programmes, and have a bite to eat. Head upstairs to use the Alexander Turnbull Library Reading Rooms and visit the Turnbull Gallery.

Big Data / changing place

Sculpture of Thorndon in the Big Data programme

Visit Te Ahumairangi to see Big Data, a programme of exhibitions, workshops, events and more. Explore how the past has shaped our present and the challenges for our engagement with the future.

Big Data runs until 30 April 2013.

Bring your friends

If you are looking for something tailored to the needs of your group or school, contact our Learning Specialist to arrange a customised experience that suits you perfectly.

When your group arrives at the National Library, the Learning Facilitation staff will host you and help you out – we’re here to make your visit the best it can be.

Experience your heritage

Explore the Alexander Turnbull collections and resources from all around New Zealand, including New Zealand on Screen and Archives New Zealand, through our digital interactives.

Settle down in the AV pods, and expand your brain with Big Data-related TED Talks, delight in the creativity of Mix and Mash, or revel in our nation’s music through Play it Strange.

Search dates, names or places that matter to you with Lifelines, a one-of-a-kind way of finding your heritage in the collections. Recapture your past or your family, whanau, hapu or iwi history, create a lifeline and email it to yourself.
