Open now | 8.30am – 5.00pm, Monday to Saturday | The Gallery, Te Ahumairangi Ground Floor
"...find what you’re good at and be bold enough to try to lead the world.”
Sir Paul Callaghan (as quoted in Atoms, Dinosaurs & DNA, Random House, 2008)
Welcome to Leading Edge, a public programme that looks at Aotearoa both past and present through the lens of innovation. From stories of chicken activated light switches to modern day bionic legs, the future is now.
Described as a robotic exoskeleton, Rex Bionics’ robotic legs are the world’s first walking alternative to a wheelchair.

Most importantly, Leading Edge is our story, so come and discover what New Zealanders have to say about innovation and see how we’ve been innovating since the first Polynesians navigated their way here.

This is not a programme just about science and technology but about how innovation can happen anywhere and touch all aspects of our lives. It’s about people who look beyond what is expected and make those ideas a reality. Come and enjoy, read, look, watch, interact and be inspired at our leading edge!
Accompanying Leading Edge is an exhibition featuring the Mix & Mash competition, which also includes some great innovation.
