Description

Includes private and official inward correspondence, 1857-1890, chiefly relating to relations with Maoris, the Greymouth strike and schemes of federation and annexation in the Pacific. Official miscellanea relate chiefly to local body reports and imperial matters. Other material includes inward private correspondence of Mrs Jane and Lady Anne Atkinson, family matters, some vituperative notes from W H Skinner, and despatches and payrolls of the Taranaki Volunteers.

Folder 249 contains extract from a letter by Dr G H Scholefield in which he comments on the value of certain papers within the recently-acquired Atkinson papers, 1956
