Description

Ngata and Ngati Porou were strong supporters of the New Zealand war effort in both world wars. This series comprises correspondence, official papers, and other material relating to the Maori Battalion in particular, as well as Maori service in the First World War, the Maori Soldiers Fund, and home front activities. The series includes letters from Maori soldiers, writing home from both wars, including letters from his son, Henare Ngata. Further files relating to the wars can be found in series 2.
