Houses with fences but not cultivated gardens are shown, there is a cabbage tree and flax bushes in the foreground and the harbour, looking north, in the background. Other Titles - Charles Kettle. James Richardson Inscriptions: Recto - bottom left - Title The view is a copy of Charles Kettle's lithograph View of part of Dunedin and upper harbour from Stafford Street, published 1849 (copy at C-010-001) or a copy of the pencil drawing for the lithograph held at C-012-004. Quantity: 1 oil(s). Physical Description: Oil on board, monotone 207 x 459 mm Provenance: The name James Richardson is recorded on the verso by an unknown hand; also a note by the donor which refers to the painting as being "one of my uncle Jim's". It appears that 'Uncle Jim' or James Richardson may have been a previous owner of the work. He was not known in the family as an artist, but it is possible that he made this copy himself.
