Schools and home educators (people who homeschool their children) can borrow books and resources from our collections to supplement their own library resources.

Loans to schools

All New Zealand schools on the Ministry of Education schools list can borrow books and resources from our Schools Lending Collection. The National Library Collections (General) is available to secondary schools and secondary year levels within composite schools as part of author/title searches, so long as a borrowing copy is available.

What you can borrow

Teachers, trainees and school librarians

If you're a teacher or school librarian, you need to borrow resources from us through your school loan coordinator. Loan coordinators request whole-school or secondary author/title loans using our online form.

Teacher trainees on teaching practice can also borrow from us through the school loan coordinator. We suggest you discuss your resourcing needs with your associate teacher first.

Loans to home educators

Home educators can also borrow our resources for their students. You'll need to provide a:

  • birth certificate for children who are 5 years old
  • current exemption certificate from the Ministry of Education for children 6–18 years old.
