Volume records Lingard-Monk's voyage around the world with his second wife Ellen Heburn. The couple visited Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and North America during the documented period of 8 November 1894 and 11 May 1895. Vessels travelled on include the P&O SS 'Himalaya' from Tilbury to Sydney, 'Waihora' from Melbourne to Auckland, and the 'Arawa' from Auckland to Honolulu via Apia. The narrative details shipboard activities, the daily life on board ship, weather patterns, and the progress of the vessel in detail. Includes a preface, and annotated chapter headings and corrections in pencil. Places visited in New Zealand include Christchurch, Wellington, Rotorua, Taupō, and Auckland.

Laid in at the front of the volume are two certified copies of marriage registry entries for Lingard-Monk from his marriages to Diana Caroline Walpole on 18 April 1876 and Ellen Heburn on 23 October 1894, prepared by the General Register Office, London, 1981 and 1982.
