Two manuscript maps on one sheet of paper.

'Rarotonga' - Sketch by Lieutenant and Commander C E Kingsmill and Lieutenant Robert Wallace Johnson of the HMS Goldfinch, 1891. With elevation of island "Rarotonga I. (bearing S. W. True dist. 20 miles)" Scale represented as 10 sea cables to 1 sea mile. Map shows buildings and topography. Peaks, islands, and other geographic features are named, school, church, and settlements are labelled. The division of the island into 5 areas is shown with shading in colour and each area named: Avarua, Arorangi, Titikaveka, Ngatangiia, Matavera, and the overall title Taki-Tumu. Named islands include: Motutapu, Oneroa, Koromiri, Taakoke,

'Avarua and Avatiu Harbours'. Outside the ruled frame: "by Putangi". Scale is represented on a graph with 10 cables to 1 sea mile. Detailed chart of the two adjacent harbours with depth soundings, palms, buildings, road shown and geographical points labelled. Includes "President's Residence", "Mission House", "Government's Building", "Makea's Palace", "Renfurly Bridge", "Hospital", "Church", "Old Parliament House", "School Hse", "Factory (red roof)", "Donald & Edenborough's store", and "Avatiu Bridge".
