Includes views of streets in Hastings and Napier, including Hastings Street (Napier) and Nelson Street (Hastings), and damaged buildings, including Parker's Chambers and Blyth's Limited.
All photographs are annotated on the backs with their locations. One photograph has a caption, including number, on the front, that reads, "559. (After the "quake" came the fire) Hastings St. Napier H. B. Feb 3rd 31."

Provenance: The photographs came from a homestead on an amalgamated farm near Ohura. The house was empty and the donor was given permission to retrieve material.
