Studio portrait of Frank Herbert Phillips, also known as Rangi Piripi/Phillips (seated), and Mahuta Tawhiao Potatau Te Wherowhero (the third Māori King), taken by Jacob Nathan Isaacs, circa 1907. Phillips is seated at a carved wooden table, and appears to be holding a pen. An open book is on the table. Mahuta stands, with one hand on the table. They are both dressed in European-style clothing.
Photograph mount bears the names of J N Isaacs and Victoria Studio, Manners St, Wellington. Handwritten inscription includes the date of 23 January 1907 and is addressed to Pene Kii [Ben Keys (1879-1951].
