- Description
Three vignettes depicting natives of various island groups. The two Ellice Island (now Tuvalu) men are probably based on drawings by Alfred Agate, from the United States Exploring Expedition, in 1841. The two Aurora (now Maewo) Islanders show a man, woman and child. The caption explains, in pencil 'clothing made from [the] bark of a tree'. The Raraka Islaner also wears tapa cloth. The artist has included coordinates 'Long. 144 Lat. 15.S'.
